Origin
The Caryota mitis, also known as the fishtail palm, has its origin in Southeast Asia. It grows naturally in various countries, including Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines. This plant can be found in lowland and mid-elevation mountain areas. The plant thrives in its natural environment, which is usually tropical or subtropical.

Characteristics
The Caryota mitis is characterised by its bi-pinnate leaves that resemble a fishtail, hence the nickname. The palm has a growth pattern in which multiple stems emerge from a single base, each capable of growing to 8 to 12 metres in height. The inflorescences hang from the ends of the branches and can reach up to 2 metres in length, adorned with tiny white flowers. This plant's fruits are small, round and black berries of about 1 centimetre in size.

Care
Caring for the Caryota mitis requires at least partial shade and high humidity, knowing that this plant originates from tropical areas. The soil should be kept constantly moist, but not saturated, to prevent root rot. Therefore, good drainage is essential. Pruning can be carried out to remove dead branches and keep the plant healthy. This palm has a moderate to fast growth rate and will adapt well to indoor conditions, as long as they resemble its natural habitat.
