Origin
The Dracaena fragrans 'Compacta' is a type of Dracaena plant and originally comes from Africa, Central America, and Asia. This plant family has more than 100 different species, ranging from lush green shrubs to tree-like specimens. The 'Compacta' variant has been specifically cultivated for indoor use and is a popular houseplant. It is also sometimes referred to as the 'Cornstalk' Dracaena.

Characteristics
The Dracaena fragrans 'Compacta' is characterised by its dark green leaves and compact growth habit, hence the name 'Compacta'. The plant has sturdy, upright trunks from which neat bundles of lanceolate leaves grow, somewhat reminiscent of the top of a pineapple. Because the 'Compacta' is a slow grower, it only reaches its maximum height of about one and a half metres after many years. The plant rarely blooms, but when it does, it produces small white flowers.

Care
The care of the Dracaena fragrans 'Compacta' is relatively simple, making it suitable for both beginner and experienced plant lovers. The plant prefers indirect light and does well at normal room temperatures. Overwatering should be avoided, as the roots can rot. It is recommended to fertilize the plant once a month during the growing period. The 'Compacta' can collect dust on its leaves, so it's a good idea to wipe them regularly with a damp cloth.
