Origin
The Dracaena marginata 'Sunray', also known as the Madagaskar dragon tree, has its origin in Madagascar. This tree-like plant falls within the Asparagaceae family and primarily grows in the dry regions of the tropical island. The botanical name ‘Marginata’ is derived from the Latin word 'margo', which means 'edge' or 'border', referring to the narrow leaf shape.

Characteristics
The Dracaena marginata 'Sunray' has a distinctive appearance. The plant grows slowly and can eventually reach over fifteen metres in height in its natural environment. The plant has narrow, striped leaves with red edges that can become up to a metre long and several centimetres wide. The stems of the plant are usually straight, but begin to branch as the plant ages.

Care
The Dracaena marginata 'Sunray' prefers indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves. The plant does not require a lot of water and overwatering can even cause root rot. It is advisable to plant it in well-drained soil and wait for the top layer of soil to dry between watering. The Dracaena marginata 'Sunray' can tolerate relatively low temperatures, but the ideal temperature for growth is between 20 and 25 degrees Celsius.
