Origin
The Euphorbia cooperi 'Blue', also known as the 'Candelabra Tree', finds its origin in South Africa. It is mainly found in the provinces of KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo, where it grows in dry grasslands and rocky slopes.
Characteristics
The Euphorbia cooperi 'Blue' is characterized by its many branches that emanate a somewhat blue glow, hence the nickname 'Blue'. It can grow to a height of 4-6 metres. The plant has few leaves, produces flowers in an orange colour, and yields green fruits that can explosively pop open upon ripening.
Care
The Euphorbia cooperi 'Blue' is a succulent and therefore requires little water. Watering should be moderate and it is even recommended not to water at all during the winter months. The plant thrives best in full sun to partial shade. In terms of temperature, the plant likes warmth but can also survive at temperatures below freezing point. It is important to use a well-draining soil type to prevent root rot.
