The Ficus elastica 'Robusta', better known as the rubber tree or rubber plant, has its origin in Southeast Asia. In this region, the plant grows in the tropical rainforests of countries such as India, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Colonisation has allowed this plant to find its way to other parts of the world.
Characteristics
The Ficus elastica 'Robusta' is a popular houseplant due to its distinguishing characteristics. The plant has large, shiny leaves that are a deep dark green in colour. Moreover, in favourable conditions, the plant can grow up to a staggering 30 meters high. However, when kept indoors, it usually only reaches a height of 2 to 3 meters. The trunk of the Ficus elastica 'Robusta' is thick and woody.
Care
