Origin
The Kentia (Howea) forsteriana is a palm species hailing from Australia, specifically from Lord Howe Island. This palm made its entrance into Europe in the Victorian era, and, due to its elegant appearance and high tolerance for less than ideal conditions, quickly gained popularity as a houseplant.

Characteristics
The Kentia distinguishes itself with its slender, tall trunk and its characteristic feather-like leaves. The leaves are a deep green colour, while the stems have a lighter, almost golden hue. The plant can reach a height of up to 2.5 metres indoors. It is a slow-growing plant, which can contribute to its long lifespan.

Care
The Kentia forsteriana needs a place with sufficient light, but should avoid direct sunlight. The plant requires average to large amounts of water, depending on its size and the light conditions. In winter, the plant should receive less water. It is important to regularly check the plant for pests and diseases, and to also dust off the leaves to prevent them from becoming dirty, which can weaken the plant. Although the Kentia has a high tolerance for less than ideal conditions, the plant will thrive best in a consistent temperature and humidity level.
