Origin
The Kalanchoe beharensis, also known as the Velvet Leaf Kalanchoe, is originally a plant from Madagascar. It is found in the dry, south-western part of the island, where it is familiar with a rocky and sandy substrate. Despite these harsh habitats, this plant has adjusted well to various climate conditions, which influences its resilience and diversity in the world of indoor plants.

Characteristics
The Kalanchoe beharensis is distinguishable by its thick, fleshy leaves that are covered with fine, soft hairs, giving it a velvet-like appearance. For this reason it is also referred to as the Velvet Leaf Kalanchoe. The plant can reach a height of up to 2 metres, while the grey-green leaves can grow up to 20 cm long. The leaf edges are often convex and brown in colour. The plant also produces yellow, bell-shaped flowers under ideal conditions.

Care
The Kalanchoe beharensis requires little maintenance, making it an ideal indoor plant. The plant isn't too demanding in terms of light, but thrives in indirect sunlight. Overwatering should be avoided as the thick leaves already store a lot of water. The plant also has a relatively low nutrient requirement and is very resistant to drought. In the winter, the watering needs to be reduced and the plant does well in a room temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius.
