 Licuala grandis
 Stem
 4LIGRRS70
Origin
The Licuala grandis is a native species of palm trees, originally from the humid lowland forests of the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu in the South Pacific. This plant is often also referred to as the 'Fan Palm'.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Licuala grandis are the very large, fan-shaped leaves that have a beautiful, deep green colour. With its striking leaves, which can become up to 2 metres in diameter, this species is a notable element in any plant collection. The trunk of this palm tree is relatively short, usually up to about 3 metres high. Unlike many other palm trees, the Licuala grandis grows quite slowly, and it takes some time to reach its actual size.
Care
For the optimal growth and development of the Licuala grandis, a humid environment with high humidity is essential. This plant prefers a shady spot and does not tolerate strong direct sunlight. In addition, this palm species requires a constant temperature, preferably between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius. In terms of water needs, the Licuala grandis is quite simple to care for. The plant likes a moist soil, but cannot handle waterlogging well. Make sure, therefore, that excess water can always drain away properly.
