Origin
The Nepenthes alata is a carnivorous plant naturally found in the Philippines. This plant is often found at large altitudes, from sea level to 2400 metres, and grows in various types of habitats, including forests, grasslands and even on rocky cliffs.

Characteristics
A notable characteristic of the Nepenthes alata is the presence of special leaves that transform into cups or pitchers, in which they trap their prey. These pitchers contain fluid that produces enzymes to digest prey such as insects. The plant can grow up to three metres tall and usually has a green to light pink colour, although the exact colour can depend on the environment.

Care
The Nepenthes alata requires high humidity and plenty of indirect sunlight to survive. They grow best in well-draining, acidic soil that is rich in organic material. Watering should be done with rainwater, distilled water or reverse osmosis water, as tap water may contain too many minerals that could be harmful to the plant. Regular fertilisers are typically not recommended, as the plant obtains nutrients from its prey.
