Cordyline fruticosa 'Kiwi' 6/tray
4COKITU12
Origin
The Nolina recurvata, also known as the ponytail palm, originally comes from the east of Mexico. It is predominantly found in dry, rocky desert areas and in the mountains where the plant has adapted to the limited water supplies.
Characteristics
The Nolina recurvata distinguishes itself with its characteristic trunk, which essentially functions as a water reservoir. The plant grows slowly and develops a thick, bulbous trunk with upward-going leaves that curve into a sort of 'ponytail'. A mature Nolina recurvata can reach a height of 1.8 to 2.5 metres. Moreover, it can bear flowers, although this is very rare for this species in captivity.
Care
The care of the Nolina recurvata is straightforward, making it a popular choice as a houseplant. The plant needs a lot of light, but does not like direct sunlight. It is important to let the plant dry out between watering, as too much water can lead to root rot. In winter, the plant needs very little water. The Nolina recurvata can also withstand dry air very well, making it thrive in heated rooms.
