Origin
The Operculicarya decaryi is a unique plant species native to the southwest of Madagascar. The plant is beloved by bonsai collectors due to its unique shape and size. In its natural habitat, this plant is predominantly found in dry forests and on quartz sand soils.

Characteristics
The Operculicarya decaryi is characterised by its gnarled, tremendously thick trunk and its thorny branches. The leaves are small, ovate, and grow in clusters at the end of the branches. Additionally, in its natural environment, the plant bears small, yellowish-green flowers that later form red fruit.

Care
When taking care of the Operculicarya decaryi, the dry, warm natural conditions the plant is accustomed to should be considered. Good drainage is essential to prevent root rot, and the plant needs a light, sunny location. During the growth seasons, spring and summer, the plant can be watered regularly, but watering should be considerably reduced in the winter. Limited feeding is recommended as the plant naturally grows in poor soil.
