Origin
The Peperomia argyreia, also known as the Watermelon Peperomia, is a tropical perennial originally from South America. The plant gets its nickname from its native environment, where it grows in the shady, moist and warm jungles of Brazil. The Peperomia argyreia is a member of the Piperaceae family, which consists of over a thousand species.

Characteristics
The Peperomia argyreia is a compact plant that usually does not grow taller than 30 centimetres. The plant has distinctive oval leaves that are green and silver in colour, with a pattern resembling that of a watermelon. These leaves are somewhat fleshy and have a waxy texture. A characteristic of the Peperomia argyreia is that it rarely blooms, but when it does, it produces small, inconspicuous flowers on upright, greenish stems.

Care
Despite its tropical origin, the Peperomia argyreia is a fairly easy plant to care for. It needs a bright spot but can also grow in semi-shade. Direct sunlight can, however, damage its leaves. The plant requires moderate water and does best in well-draining soil to prevent root rot. In general, a constant temperature and humidity are ideal for the growth of the Peperomia argyreia.
