DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Philodendron squamiferum is a rare growing species within the Araceae family. This exotic plant finds its origin in the rainforests of Central and South America, where it grows wild in the humid, warm climate. The plant was discovered and documented by French botanist Edmond Planchon in the late 19th century. Although rather unknown to the general public, this species is loved and sought after by collectors of rare plants.

Characteristics
The Philodendron squamiferum is a uniquely looking climbing plant and stands out because of its hirsute (hairy) stems, hence it's often referred to by its red, hairy stems. The leaves of this plant are heart-shaped and boast a shiny, dark green colour. Mature leaves can reach a length of 30 cm to 90 cm. Moreover, this plant possesses air purifying qualities.

Care
For optimal growth and health, the Philodendron squamiferum requires a bright, indirect light environment. The plant should be watered regularly, but should not be left standing in water to prevent root rot. High humidity is beneficial for this plant due to its tropical nature, so spraying regularly can be advantageous. The ideal temperature for this plant ranges between 16 and 29 degrees Celsius, but it can survive in temperatures as low as 12 degrees Celsius.
