Aeschynanthus 'Mona Lisa'
Hanger
4AEMLHA15
Origin
Rhipsalis elliptica is a plant species that originally originates from the rainforests of Brazil. This plant is a member of the cactus family, despite the fact that it does not have prickles or needles like most of its relatives. It is often found on the forest floor or as an epiphyte in trees.
Characteristics
Rhipsalis elliptica is a hanging plant with many thin stems. The leaves are narrow, flat and elliptical in shape, hence the name. The flowers of this plant are small, white and often appear in the winter months. Upon fertilization, the flowers develop into small red fruits.
Care
Despite Rhipsalis elliptica being a cactus species, its care differs from most cacti. It requires partial shade and high humidity, which makes sense considering its original habitat. Like most cacti, the plant needs well-drained soil and should only be watered when the soil is dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
