Origin
The Rhapis multifida is an exotic plant species originally from South China. This species belongs to the Arecaceae family, better known as the palm family. This plant grows wild in the shady and moist forests of the Guangdong province in China.
Characteristics
The Rhapis multifida, also known as the Jade Palm, can be identified by its narrow, dark green leaves that are deeply cut into several segments. The plant is a slow growing palm that can reach a height of about 1 to 2 metres. The trunk of the Rhapis multifida is covered with fibres from the base of its leaves. This palm has the property of producing other trunks through its roots, resulting in a forest-like growth.
Care
The Rhapis multifida requires a light, but not completely sunny position. It is important to keep the plant's soil moist, but too much water can lead to root rot. Another significant factor in care is the temperature, which should ideally remain between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, the palm needs to be fed every two to three weeks with a nutrient solution for green plants.
