Origin
The Sansevieria cylindrica 'Mikado' is a variant of the Sansevieria plant family originally found in West Africa. This member of the asparagus family, known as the 'African spear', was first classified by the Italian botanist Vincenzo Petagna. The natural habitat of this species extends over dry, rocky areas from West Africa to East Africa.
Characteristics
The Sansevieria cylindrica 'Mikado' is characterised by its long, cylindrical, dark green leaves that grow in a rosette shape. The 'Mikado' variety distinguishes itself by the spear-shaped growth of the leaves, reminiscent of the lines in a game of Mikado. Notable are also the horizontal markings on the leaves, giving the plant a unique appearance. Furthermore, the 'Mikado' occasionally blooms with white, light green or light pink flowers.
Care
In terms of the care for the Sansevieria cylindrica 'Mikado', the plant is relatively easy to maintain. It appreciates bright, indirect light and can also grow at low light levels. The 'Mikado' can withstand drought and requires only moderate watering. Overwatering can cause root rot, which can damage the plant. It is recommended to plant the plant in well-draining soil and only water when the top inch of the soil feels dry.
