Origin
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate', also known as the Australian umbrella tree, has its origin in the warm and humid rainforests of Australia and New Guinea. This species is a member of the Araliaceae family and has become a popular houseplant due to its easy adaptation to indoor conditions.
Characteristics
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate' distinguishes itself by its dark green, glossy leaves that are arranged in groups of seven to sixteen in a pattern resembling an umbrella. The plant can grow up to 10 meters high indoors under good conditions, but this is exceptional and it usually remains between 1 and 3 meters. The plant produces small flowers in large clusters, but rarely blooms indoors.
Care
The Schefflera actinophylla 'Amate' is quite easy to care for. The plant needs light, indirect sunlight and cannot tolerate full sun. The soil must dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Although the plant is tolerant to a wide range of temperatures, it prefers a warm, humid environment similar to its native rainforest habitat.
