Origin
The Scindapsus (Epipremnum) 'Aureum' is a popular houseplant that originally comes from the swamps and rainforests of the Solomon Islands east of Papua New Guinea. This tropical, evergreen liana plant is a member of the Araceae family, which includes over a thousand different species worldwide. The plant is also known by the name Pothos.
Characteristics
The Scindapsus 'Aureum' is notable for its attractive, heart-shaped leaves that can display a variety of colours, from deep green to light green, cream or yellowish, often with an appealing marble pattern. The plant has the unique feature of being able to serve as both a climbing plant and a hanging plant. The plant can grow quite large, with stems that can reach up to 2 meters in length.
Care
The care of the Scindapsus 'Aureum' does not require much effort, making it a perfect choice for beginning plant caretakers. The plant prefers a well-draining potting soil and a location where it receives indirect, bright light. Overwatering should be avoided as this can cause root rot. The plant thrives best in medium to high humidity, which is typical for its original tropical habitat.
