Senecio kleinia

Origin
The Senecio kleinia, also known as the Canary Island Senecio, is a plant species native to the Canary Islands. This species belongs to the Asteraceae family, which also houses more familiar species such as daisies and sunflowers. The plant is named after the German botanist, Jacob Theodor Klein.

Characteristics
The Senecio kleinia is a striking plant due to its long, succulent and light-green stems. It is a succulent species, which means that the plant stores water in these stems. These stems can grow up to a length of 2 meters. The leaves of the Senecio kleinia are small and fall off quickly. The plant blooms in the summer, with small yellow-brown flowers at the end of the stems.

Care
The care of the Senecio kleinia requires little effort. The plant can be placed in full sun as well as in partial shade. Moreover, this succulent plant needs very little water, and prefers dry soil. It is recommended to let the soil dry out completely before watering again. Cold temperatures are not conducive to growth, therefore, the plant needs to be brought indoors during the winter months to prevent frost damage.
