Origin
The Strelitzia Nicolai, also known as the white bird of paradise plant, has its origin in South Africa. They grow there in coastal forests and shrubs, from the Eastern Cape Province to Limpopo. The plant is named after the Russian Tsar Nicholas I, a lover of exotic plants.
Characteristics
The Strelitzia Nicolai has unique characteristics that set her apart from other plants. She is an evergreen plant that can grow up to 6 metres high. Characteristic are the wide, shiny, green leaves that form a unique fan-shaped pattern. Moreover, the plant produces striking, white flowers with a deep blue base, which resemble the head of an exotic bird.
Care
For the care of the Strelitzia Nicolai, it is important to provide her with the right growing conditions. She thrives in a well-draining and nutritious soil and in an environment with a lot of light. Water is given when the top layer of the soil is dry. Too much water can lead to root rot, especially in the winter months. In addition, this plant is not frost resistant, so it must be brought indoors when the temperature in the winter drops too low. Feeding the plant ideally happens once a month during the growing period.
