DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Strelitzia reginae, also known as the bird of paradise, originates from South Africa. The plant was introduced to Europe in the 18th century. The name Strelitzia reginae was given in honour of Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom, a princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz.

Characteristics
Strelitzia reginae is an eye-catching, evergreen plant with large, upright leaves. The plant can grow up to two metres in height. The spectacular flowers of the Strelitzia reginae, which somewhat resemble the head of an exotic bird, are orange and blue in colour. These flowers typically appear in late winter or early spring.

Care
For optimal growth, the Strelitzia reginae requires a lot of light but cannot tolerate direct sunlight. The plant needs regular watering, but it is important that the soil dries out thoroughly between watering to prevent root rot. The Strelitzia reginae is not frost-resistant and must be brought indoors during the cold months if grown outdoors. It is recommended to fertilise the plant in the spring with a general plant food.
