Origin
The Veitchia merrillii, also known as the Adonidia merrillii, is a tropical species of palm originally from the Philippines. This lush palm is named after American botanist Elmer Drew Merrill. The first description of this species was provided by Odoardo Beccari, an Italian botanist.

Characteristics
The Veitchia merrillii is an elegant palm that grows to a height ranging from 15 to 25 meters, with a slender, grey trunk sprinkled with leaf scar markings. This species of palm stands out for its feathery, green leaves that can reach a length of 2 to 4 meters. The fruits of this palm are bright red, give a festive appearance and develop into white or slightly yellow flesh with a sweet taste when they are fully ripe.

Care
The Veitchia merrillii requires little maintenance and is perfect for adding a tropical touch to the landscape. This palm prefers full sun to partial shade, and needs well-draining soil to thrive. In addition, this species requires moderate to high levels of water, but can withstand short periods of drought. Nonetheless, regular watering and fertilising during the growing season will promote growth and health.
