Acer jap. 'Aconitifolium' (120-180)
Product number : 5ACACVT39Origin
The Acer jap. 'Aconitifolium', also known under the English name Fullmoon Maple, originally comes from Japan. It is a variant of the maple, a tree family that can be found in large parts of Asia, Europe, and North America. This specific variant owes its name to the shape of the leaf, which reminds us of a monkshood plant, or Aconitum.
Characteristics
Characteristic for the Acer jap. 'Aconitifolium' is the particular leaf that turns a fresh green in spring and shows a spectacular colour change in many shades of yellow, orange, and red in the autumn. The leaves are incised to the midrib and have a notably lobed shape. There are usually seven to nine lobes, which are deeply incised and touch or overlap each other. The tree can reach a height of 4 to 6 meters and usually grows broadly.
Care
The Acer jap. 'Aconitifolium' prefers a humid, well-draining, and humus-rich soil. It's important that the plant is not in full sun but rather in partial shade or shade. Pruning is only sporadically necessary and mainly focuses on removing dead or damaged branches and keeping the tree's shape. This is best done in late autumn or early winter, when the risk of sap flow is minimal.
