DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Acer pal. 'Bloodgood' originates from the regions of East Asia, specifically Japan, Korea and China. It is a cultivar of the Acer palmatum species, which has a rich history of cultivation in these East Asian countries. The 'Bloodgood' variant, named after the nursery where it was first grown, was brought to the West in the early 19th century.

Characteristics
The Acer pal. 'Bloodgood' is a graceful deciduous tree known for its stunning, deep purple-red leaves that turn green in the summer and have brilliant red and orange hues in the autumn. The tree typically grows to a height of 5 to 8 metres, but can also be kept smaller. It is a slow-growing tree, with a round to oval crown shape and produces very decorative samara fruits.

Care
Acer pal. 'Bloodgood' requires a spot in partial shade or full sun and thrives well in a moist, well-draining soil. Although it is more tolerant to drought than some other species, it still requires regular watering, especially in dry conditions. Pruning is best done in the late summer or early autumn to minimize 'bleeding', and with only the removal of sick, dead or crossing branches to maintain the natural shape. Protection from harsh winds is recommended to prevent leaf damage.
