Aloe dichotoma (100-120)
Stem
5ALDIKK80
Origin
The Aloe plicatilis, also known as the fan aloe, has its origin in the mountains of the Western Cape province in South Africa. Here, the plant grows on rocky slopes and in dry, open forest areas. It is a protected species in its natural habitat.
Characteristics
The Aloe plicatilis is an unusual Aloe species because of its fan-shaped growth habit. The leaves are long, thin and have a succulent texture, with a blue-green colour. The plant produces bright orange or red flowers in the late winter or early spring that attract many birds and insects. Mature plants can grow up to 5 metres tall and have multiple branches.
Care
The Aloe plicatilis prefers full sun or light shade and well-draining soil. As the plant naturally grows in dry areas, it has a low water requirement and is resistant to prolonged drought. Although the plant is frost-resistant up to -4 degrees Celsius, it is recommended to protect the plant from frost. The Aloe plicatilis will show the best possible growth and flowering if it is fertilised annually in the spring.
