Origin
The Citrus lemon, also known as Citrofortunella, originates from Southeast Asia, with centres of diversity in Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. The plant was first cultivated in China and Northeast India and gradually spread to the Middle East, Europe and eventually the Americas.

Characteristics
The Citrus lemon is an evergreen tree that can grow up to 6 metres in height. It is notable for its fragrant and glossy oval leaves, sharp thorns and white blossoms followed by smaller, round to oval fruits. The fruit of the Citrus lemon is a hybrid between the wild lemon and the mandarin and is distinctive for its sweet-sour taste and the intense aroma of the fruit.

Care
Care for the Citrus lemon requires a bright, sunny location, ideally with some protection from hot midday sun. Although the plant is tolerant of various soil types, it prefers well-draining, slightly acidic soil with a high organic content. The Citrus lemon has a moderate water requirement, and overwatering should be avoided. It is recommended to fertilise the plant regularly during the growth phase. During the winter months, the plant needs to be protected from frost and cold wind.
