Origin
The Crassula ovata 'Sunset' is a variety of the more well-known Crassula ovata, which has its origin in South Africa. This species of plant belongs to the succulent family. These types of plants are adapted to dry climates and have the capacity to store water in their fleshy leaves, stems or roots.
Characteristics
The Crassula ovata 'Sunset' has a compact growth habit and is characterised by its small, shiny, jade-green leaves with red edges that intensify in colour when exposed to direct sunlight. The plant can form compact clusters and typically reaches a height of about 30 cm. Moreover, the 'Sunset' blooms in the winter months with clusters of tiny, star-shaped, white flowers.
Care
The care of the Crassula ovata 'Sunset' requires little maintenance. This plant prefers well-drained soil and plenty of light, but can also grow in partial shade. Too much water can cause root rot, therefore it's important to allow the soil to completely dry out between watering. It's also recommended to keep the plant slightly cooler during the winter months to encourage blooming. Furthermore, this plant is drought-tolerant and is resistant to most types of pests.
