Origin
The Lavandula angustifolia, also known as true lavender, has its origin in the Mediterranean region. Here, the plant grows on dry, rocky hillsides in the sun and in countries such as France, Italy and Spain. In the past, the plant was used by the Romans for ritual and medical purposes.

Characteristics
The Lavandula angustifolia is an evergreen shrub that can grow up to approximately one metre high. The leaves are oblong, grey-green in colour and strongly scented. In the summer months, the plant produces characteristic purple-blue flowers that stand in spikes. These flowers are bee and butterfly magnets and have a calming, distinctive scent.

Care
For healthy growth, the Lavandula angustifolia requires well-drained soil and a place in full sun. The plant is drought-tolerant and needs little water, too much can cause root rot. Additionally, it is recommended to prune the plant in the spring to promote compact growth and to increase the production of flowers.
