Origin
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia', also known as the Portuguese laurel, is originally a native of Southwest Europe. This plant is mainly found in Portugal and the western part of Spain. The species also grows in Morocco and on Madeira and the Canary Islands.

Characteristics
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' is an evergreen shrub with glossy, dark green leaves that turn red in autumn. The plant grows to be 5 to 7 metres tall and wide, although it grows slowly and takes years to reach this size. In late spring and early summer, the shrub produces striking clusters of small white flowers, followed by small, dark berries in the autumn.

Care
The Prunus lusitanica 'Angustifolia' is an easy plant to care for. The shrub grows best in full sun to partial shade and in well-drained soil. Although the plant tolerates drought, it performs optimally with regular watering. Since the shrub grows slowly, regular pruning is not necessary but possible to keep the shrub in shape. It is also resistant to most pests and diseases that affect other plants.
