Origin
The Rhododendron yakushimanum 'Arabella' is a cultivar within the Rhododendron genus that was originally grown in Belgium. The plant is also informally known as the 'Yaku Princess'. It is a hybrid variant, created from the 'yakushimanum' species and other Rhododendron species.

Characteristics
This Rhododendron variant is a bush with a compact growth. It has shiny green leaves that are covered on the underside with a soft white haze. The plant produces an abundance of beautiful, light pink flowers in the spring, the colour changing later in the season to white. The 'Arabella' can reach a height of 1 to 1.5 meters and a width between 1 to 1.5 meters.

Care
The Rhododendron yakushimanum 'Arabella' prefers a sandy, well-drained soil with a high acidity. The plant is best placed in partial or full shade. 'Arabella' also requires a moderate climate to thrive. This species is fairly drought tolerant, but it is best to keep the soil evenly moist. Pruning the 'Arabella' is not necessary, but it can help keep the bush in shape.
