Origin
The Taxus baccata, also known as the common yew, is a native species in Europe, Northwest Africa and Southwest Asia. This species is among the oldest plant species in the world and is often found in forests and heaths.

Characteristics
The Taxus baccata is an evergreen tree or shrub that can grow up to 20 meters tall. It has dark green, hard, needle-like leaves and produces small, cone-shaped fruits wrapped in a bright red, fleshy-looking shell. The trunk and branches are often forked with a redbrown bark that turns silver over time.

Care
In terms of care, the Taxus baccata requires relatively little. This plant can grow both in full sun and in the shade, but prefers well-draining soil. Regular pruning is recommended to maintain a compact shape. Although the Taxus baccata has a decent tolerance for drought, regular watering is recommended during dry periods. Due to its slow-growing nature, fertilization is rarely necessary.
