DescriptionSpecifications

Origin
The Trachycarpus fortunei, also known as the Chinese Fan Palm, has its origin in the Middle and Far East. It grows wild in areas such as the Himalayas, Northern India, Burma and China. It is one of the toughest palms, able to survive extreme cold, which has allowed it to spread far and wide.

Characteristics
Trachycarpus fortunei is an evergreen palm that can reach a height of 12 to 20 meters under ideal conditions. The trunk is covered with fibrous material that serves as natural insulation against cold and moisture. The leaves form a fan and can grow up to 1 meter in diameter, with numerous small, narrow, pointed segments. It blooms with yellow flowers in late spring or summer.

Care
When it comes to care, the Trachycarpus fortunei requires a sunny to semi-shaded location, preferably protected from harsh winds. The soil should be well-draining, but the palm also tolerates poor soils. Watering must be moderate, as too much water can cause root rot. While the palm is young, an extra layer of mulch around the base can help protect the roots from cold and drying out.
