Origin
The Washingtonia robusta 'Hybrid', also known as the Mexican fan palm, is a hybrid palm species that has its origin in Northwest Mexico and Southern California. This species is named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. This variant is a cross between two palm species, the Washingtonia robusta and Washingtonia filifera.

Characteristics
This striking palm tree is characterised by its slender, tall trunk that can grow up to 25 meters high. The trunk is covered with dark brown fibres and old leaf residues, which form a kind of 'skirt'. The leaves of the Washingtonia robusta 'Hybrid' are fan-shaped and grow into a dense crown. They are large, lush green in colour and have sharp points.

Care
Caring for the Washingtonia robusta 'Hybrid' requires special attention. The palm needs a lot of light, but cannot tolerate too intense sunlight. Ideally, the palm should be placed in semi-shade. The soil in which the palm grows needs to be well-drained, as the palm does not cope well with waterlogging. During warm summers, the palm needs to be watered regularly, but in the winter, the palm can manage with less water.
