Origin
The Bromelia Orange, also known as the Aechmea fasciata, is an exotic plant native to the tropical regions of South and Central America. The plant is mainly found in the rainforests of Brazil. The plant was discovered by botanist Carl Friedrich Philipp von Martius in the year 1828.
Characteristics
The Bromelia Orange is characterised by its exciting structure and brightly coloured flowers. The plant has a sturdy stalk and pointed leaves with unique patterns. The most notable characteristic of the Bromelia Orange are the orange flowers which grow in a wreath-like formation at the top of the plant. The plant can grow up to 60 centimetres in height and only flowers once in its lifespan, but the flowering period can last up to six months.
Care
Despite its exotic origin, the care for the Bromelia Orange is relatively straightforward. The plant prefers bright, but indirect sunlight and temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Being an epiphyte, the plant obtains nutrients from the air and water that collects in the intersecting leaves, which means overwatering can be damaging. It is recommended to replace the water in the heart of the plant to reduce the risk of rot or mould.
