Origin
The Ananas Mi Amigo originates from South America, specifically Brazil, where it grows naturally on the forest floor. The original inhabitants of South America were cultivating and consuming the pineapple before Europeans discovered the fruit. The name 'Mi Amigo' is Spanish and means 'my friend', a name that refers to the friendly and inviting appearance of the plant.

Characteristics

The Ananas Mi Amigo is a smaller variant of the Ananas comosus, the pineapple plant that we recognise from the fruits in the supermarket. This plant is characterised by long, pointed green leaves from the core of which a single pineapple fruit grows. The fruit of the Ananas Mi Amigo is smaller than the commercial pineapple, but has the same striking skin and crest.

Care
The Ananas Mi Amigo needs a warm and light environment to grow well, similar to its tropical origin. It requires moderate watering, it is advised to wait until the top layer of the soil is dry before watering. A temperature which is too low or overwatering can lead to rot and leaf drop. The plant grows slowly and usually only produces one fruit in its lifetime. The fruit ripens over a period of about 6 months.
