Origin
The Guzmania Ocean Blue is an exotic houseplant originally from Central and South America. It is a member of the bromeliad family, which comprises over 2,000 different species. The plant grows naturally on the ground or on tree trunks in subtropical rainforests.
Characteristics
The distinctive characteristics of the Guzmania Ocean Blue are its bright blue flowers, which form a striking color contrast with the green leaves. The plant can grow up to 60 centimetres tall. The leaves are long, thin and form a rosette around the central flower. The bloom of this plant can last for up to three to four months.
Care
The care of the Guzmania Ocean Blue requires a location with plenty of light, but no direct sunlight, as its leaves can burn. The plant needs a high humidity level and therefore it is recommended to spray it regularly with water. Unlike many other plants, the Guzmania Ocean Blue needs water at the heart of the plant, not at the roots. It is important to know that this plant cannot tolerate frost. At temperatures below 15°C, it can suffer serious damage.
