Origin
The Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen originates from East Asia and Australia. It tends to grow in tropical and subtropical climates, such as in Australia, Malaysia, and India. In these regions, it is often found in dense forests and rainforests.
Characteristics
The Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen, also known as the wax plant, is known for its luxuriant, fleshy leaves and fragrant flowers. The leaves have a characteristic cream-white edge and can grow up to five centimetres long. The plant has spherical inflorescences, consisting of several small, waxy flowers in shades of pink to white. It is a climbing plant, and with good care, it can grow up to four metres high.
Care
When caring for the Hoya carnosa Krimson Queen, both temperature and light are important. The plant is resistant to a wide range of temperatures, but performs best between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. It requires lots of light, but needs to be protected from direct sunlight, which can damage the leaves. In terms of water, the soil should be dry between watering, as too much water can cause root rot. The fertilising regime consists of a half-strength, water-soluble fertiliser, applied monthly during the growing period.
