Origin
The Crassula Hottentot, also known as the Jade Necklace or Crassula Marnieriana, originates from South Africa. The plant belongs to the family Crassulaceae, a plant family known for its succulents that are prevalent in drier areas.
Characteristics
Characteristic of the Crassula Hottentot are the fleshy, disc-like leaves that grow compactly on long, hanging stems. These leaves are predominantly green in colour with red edges. The plant can grow up to a height of 30 cm and in temperate climates produces small, star-shaped flowers from white to light pink in colour.
Care
The Crassula Hottentot thrives in direct sunlight and can be placed both indoors and outdoors, provided the climate allows it. The plant prefers well-draining soil and can survive moderate to average water shortage. It is important not to overwater this succulent, as this can cause root rot. In the winter, the Crassula Hottentot can withstand mild frost, provided that the soil is dry. In the case of severe frost, it is advisable to move the plant indoors.
