Origin
The Philodendron Red Sun originates from Central and South America. This species of plant grows wild in the rainforests, where it wraps itself around trees and grows up towards the light in the tree tops. The Philodendron, in general, is part of the Araceae family, which is common worldwide, except for the colder regions.
Characteristics
A distinctive aspect of the Philodendron Red Sun is the bright red colour of its leaves during the initial growth period. As the plant ages, the colour of the leaves changes from vibrant red to deep dark green. This species of plant has heart-shaped leaves that vary in size and the growth rate is relatively high compared to other Philodendron species. The Philodendron Red Sun is also known under the name Philodendron 'Prince of Orange'.
Care
This species of plant has a preference for indirect light and does not thrive well in direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves. Moist soil is important, but make sure that the plant does not stand in water, as this can cause root rot. Keep the temperature between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius for optimum growth. Finally, the Philodendron Red Sun is a lover of high humidity, so a regular spray is recommended.
