Origin
The Ficus Elastica Schrijveriana, also known as the Rubber Plant, originates from Southeast Asia, specifically India and Indonesia. This species is part of the Moraceae family, commonly known as the Mulberry family. Over the years, this species has spread to various parts of the world, including Australia and parts of South America.
Characteristics
The Ficus Elastica Schrijveriana is a vigorous, evergreen plant species. It is characterised by its large, glossy leaves which are dark green in colour. They have striking, light veins that run across the leaves. The leaves are generally around 10-35 cm long and 5-15 cm wide. Given ideal conditions, the plant can grow up to 30 meters high.
Care
When caring for the Ficus Elastica Schrijveriana, it is important to place the plant in a location with plenty of indirect sunlight. Too much direct sunlight can burn the leaves. The plant prefers a constantly moist soil, without it becoming waterlogged. As for temperature, the plant likes a warm, tropical climate. Temperatures between 16 and 24 degrees Celsius are ideal. Generally, the plant has a moderate to high water need, depending on the humidity and temperature in the room.
