Origin
The Hypoestes phyllostachya Red, also known as the Polkadot Plant, has its origin in Madagascar. This plant comes from the Acanthaceae family, to which the Chinese cats whiskers and the Justicia brandegeana also belong.
Characteristics
The Hypoestes phyllostachya Red can be recognised by its deep red, almost burgundy leaves with charming, dotted motifs. The leaf is oval in shape, while the plant itself can reach a height of about 30 centimetres. The plant blooms all year round, with small mauve flowers that stand out against the strikingly coloured leaf.
Care
When caring for the Hypoestes phyllostachya Red, it is important to know that this heat-loving plant can grow both indoors and outdoors. The plant thrives best in indirect light and is not tolerant of direct sun. Watering should be done regularly, the soil can remain moist but should not stand in water. In addition, it is recommended to fertilise monthly during the growing period.
