Origin
The Parodia penicillata, also known as the brush cactus, has its origin in South America. This type of cactus primarily grows within the mountainous regions of Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Here, the Parodia penicillata lives in a rocky environment with high sunlight exposure.
Characteristics
The Parodia penicillata is a small spherical cactus species that can reach heights of five to fifteen centimetres. The cactus has many small, brush-like spines, hence its nickname: the brush cactus. It blooms in the spring and summer, with bright yellow flowers that appear at the top of the cactus.
Care
Caring for the Parodia penicillata requires some specific points of attention. The cactus needs plenty of sunlight and well-draining potting soil. During the growing period, typically from spring until autumn, the cactus should be watered regularly. However, it is important not to let the roots drown, so overwatering must be avoided.
