Origin
The Pilosocereus gounellei is a cactus species that originally hails from Northeast Brazil. The plant primarily grows on caatinga vegetation, a unique desert-like landscape. The cactus is also known as xique-xique, but is usually referred to as Pilosocereus gounellei.

Characteristics
The Pilosocereus gounellei is a columnar cactus that grows quickly and can reach up to 5 metres in height. The cactus sports blue-green to grey-green stems that can grow up to 10 centimetres in diameter. The cactus stands out for its distinctive hair-like spines and blossoms with white flowers, typically during the night.

Care
When it comes to caring for the Pilosocereus gounellei, it is important to note that it grows best in full sun and well-drained soil. Since the plant is adapted to dry conditions, it doesn't need excessive watering. The cactus is quite frost-resistant, however, excessive humidity during the cold months can be harmful. It is advisable to bring the cactus indoors during winter when temperatures drop below freezing.
