Origin
The Agave dragon toes, also known as Agave pygmaea 'Dragon Toes', originates from Mexico. This species is often found in the wild in the rocky, sandy areas of Central and South Mexico. Although it is a native species, the Agave dragon toes has become a popular ornamental plant in other parts of the world.

Characteristics
Agave dragon toes is a compact, small to medium-sized plant with blue-grey leaves that grow in a rosette form. The leaves are sturdy and broad, with a striking 'hammered' surface and curved teeth along the edges. Somewhat unique to agaves, this plant is speckled with light markings, said to resemble dragon claws, hence the name. The plant also produces a tall, branching inflorescence with small yellow flowers.

Care
Caring for the Agave dragon toes can be easily managed by even relatively inexperienced gardeners. The plant prefers well-draining soil and should be placed in a sunny location. Generally, it is cold tolerant and able to withstand drought well. The plant requires little water and too much can lead to root rot. Furthermore, the Agave dragon toes is a slow-growing plant, so fertilisation is only needed sporadically.
