Lavandula angustifolia 'Arctic Snow'
F00003050
Origin
The Alcea rosea, better known as the hollyhock, is a perennial plant originally from Southwest China. The plant was later discovered by Europeans and spread to various parts of the world, especially regions with a temperate climate.
Characteristics
The Alcea rosea is a remarkable plant with its tall flower stems, which can reach up to 3 meters in height. The hollyhock bears large, noticeable flowers that vary in colour from white to purple and everything in between. The plant typically flowers in the summer for a period of about two months. The leaves have a heart-shaped contour and a hairy surface.
Care
Care for Alcea rosea requires sunny to semi-shaded positions and permeable, well-fertilised soil. It is one of the few plants that do well on sandy or rocky soils. In dry periods, the plant should be watered regularly. Pruning immediately after flowering can result in a second flowering period. It's also important to ensure sufficient distance between plants due to their growth size and to promote air circulation, which helps in the prevention of mould.
