Origin
The Heuchera mix, otherwise known as Coral bells, is an evergreen perennial that originates from North America. The Heuchera genus comprises about 37 species, most of which grow in the wild in rocky, wooded areas. The plant is named after the German doctor and botanist Johann Heinrich von Heucher.
Characteristics
The Heuchera mix is characterised by its astonishing leaf colours, ranging from deep purple to shiny silver. It is a bushy plant that can grow 40 to 60 centimeters tall. The flowers are bell-shaped and small, typically white or pink, and appear in summer on long, slender stems above the leaves. The leaves are heart or kidney-shaped, sometimes deeply incised and often serrated along the edges.
Care
The Heuchera mix thrives well in partial shade but can also tolerate full sun, provided the soil stays sufficiently moist. The plant prefers well-draining, fertile soil, slightly acidic to neutral. It's a very drought-resistant species, but to keep the leaves healthy and colourful, regular watering is advised. Removing faded flower stems promotes a longer flowering period and prevents self-seeding.
