Prunus laurocerasus Etna
F00003777
Origin
The Picea omorika 'Nana', also known as the Serbian Spruce 'Nana', originated from the mountainous regions of the Balkans, specifically Serbia and Bosnia. This tree was first scientifically described in the late 19th century. It is a slow-growing variant of the larger Picea omorika, specifically bred for its smaller size.
Characteristics
The Picea omorika 'Nana' is a dwarf conifer with a dense, spherical growth habit. The tree is characterised by its dark green needles, which are silvery on the underside. In spring, the tree produces small, inconspicuous flowers, followed by brown cones in the autumn. Despite their small size, these trees can reach a height of 1 to 1.5 meters.
Care
The Picea omorika 'Nana' requires little maintenance, partly because they are slow growers. They thrive best in a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil. Although they are drought tolerant, they perform best with regular watering, especially during the dry summer months. Annual pruning is not necessary, but can be carried out to maintain size and shape. It's also important to note that the Picea omorika 'Nana' is frost resistant.
