Origin
The Cortaderia selloana 'Mini Pampas', also known as the dwarf pampas grass, has its origin in the vast South American continent. This plant species is indigenous to the pampas of Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. As the name suggests, this breed is smaller than the typical Pampas grass species.
Characteristics
This elegant plant distinguishes itself by its compact growth and full, fluffy plumes. The plumes of the Cortaderia selloana 'Mini Pampas' vary in colour from light pink to white. The plant can reach a height of about 90 to 120 centimetres and has long, sharp leaves, which often have a silvery colour. Despite its smaller size, the 'Mini Pampas' can still have an impressive and noticeable presence within a garden landscape.
Care
Although the Cortaderia selloana 'Mini Pampas' grows in the most rugged conditions, the plant still needs some care to flourish optimally. It prefers a sunny spot with a well-draining soil. To maintain the beautiful plumes, the plant should be pruned in the spring, with old flower stems and dead leaves being removed. It is also important to ensure sufficient moisture, especially during dry periods, although the plant is highly resistant to drought.
