Origin
The Acer palmatum 'Deshojo', also known as the Japanese maple in English, has its origin in East Asia. The plant has been spread by humans all over the world and is now found in many areas. It is especially in Japan where the maple grows in large numbers. Here, the plant is also often used in various Japanese garden designs.

Characteristics
The Acer palmatum 'Deshojo' is known for its striking red leaves in spring, which change to green throughout the year. These leaves have a characteristic shape, similar to the palm of a hand, which is also where the plant gets its name. The maximum height of the 'Deshojo' is approximately 6 meters. In autumn, the leaves display a beautiful red colour again, followed by the deciduous shrub preparing for winter.

Care
Like all Acer palmatum varieties, the 'Deshojo' prefers a sheltered location in semi-shade or sun with a well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. To maintain its characteristic shape, it is wise to prune the plant annually, preferably in late summer or early autumn. During dry periods, it is advisable to provide supplementary watering to prevent the soil from drying out. An annual fertilisation contributes to healthy growth and longevity.
