Origin
The Hydrangea Mophead, commonly referred to as the Hortensia, originates from Asia and America. This species has been popular in these regions for centuries. It is primarily Japanese and Chinese gardeners who have given the plant its refined appearance.
Characteristics
Typical for the Hydrangea Mophead is its spherical flower, which is composed of multiple small blooms. The flowers come in various colours such as blue, pink, white and purple. The colour of the flower can be influenced by the acidity of the soil. The shrub can achieve a height between one and one and a half metres.
Care
The Hydrangea Mophead requires little specific care. The plant prefers partial shade and does not tolerate drought. Regular watering is therefore necessary. It is recommended to prune the plant in early spring to ensure good formation of flowers. A nutritious soil through the addition of compost or manure also contributes to healthy growth.
